The history of Richardson’s storied 112 Trucker began in 2004. The brief was simple, but by no means easy: Create the ultimate trucker cap.
Little did the team know they’d be creating a cap that would eventually become the standard by which all other caps were measured. With nearly 20 years of headwear creation expertise to guide them – along with the trademark attention to detail that’s become the calling card of the Richardson brand – the product team set to work.
“There were three key areas we wanted to nail when we started designing the 112,” recalled Kelly Richardson, CEO of Richardson. “The first was profile. It had to have that timeless, baseball-inspired Richardson Mid Pro shape. The next was fit. This had to be a good, all-around cap that looked great on everyone. A cap you’d want to wear all day long and would quickly become your favorite. And lastly, as with everything else we do at Richardson, it had to be made with quality first. From materials to construction to fit consistency – I wanted the best of it all.”
After trying on a lot of prototypes and working through numerous sample rounds, the team finally created a trucker that answered the brief. America’s Favorite Cap was born.
Today, the 112 Trucker – along with the numerous iterations derived from it – has become a true icon of the Richardson brand. Often imitated but never duplicated, the 112 family of headwear continues to stand for quality, craftsmanship, and versatility.
